Beauty Must Have: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

As you might remember from my previous post raving about Wet n Wild lipsticks, I love lip color. It really adds the finishing touches to any look, whether it’s just an average day at the office or dinner on a Saturday night.

During the peak of the whole matte and Kylie Jenner lip trend, I discovered the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams at my local Bed, Bath and Beyond. I had been searching for the perfect nude lip color – one that wasn’t drying and would last all day – so I decided to try these. In the past, I’ve used the NYX Butter Gloss and absolutely loved it over another nude/pink NYX lipstick, so I thought the Lip Creams wouldn’t be that much different.

After falling in love over and over again with every application, here’s why the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are a beauty must have.

Honestly, the first time I applied the Lip Cream, I was confused. The consistency was so much different than I was used to with lipstick and lip gloss. It’s a very creamy and wet formula, which is the point of “lip cream.” It feels like applying a velvety mousse on your lips. It’s very creamy and lightweight. Once it sets its very matte, it doesn’t slide around and it’s so long lasting!

Personally, I’ve only delved into the nude and pink shades because it’s more practical for every day wear, but there’s a very large range of colors. They offer 34 shades on the NYX site, and obviously your local store varies. Seriously check them out! They have tons of nudes and pinks, as well as bright reds and dark purples – it’s really incredible. *Swatches featured in image below: Abu Dhabi (on top) & Stockholm (on bottom)

Of course, pigment is one of the factors when deciding if makeup products are good or not and this product takes the cake. These lip creams pack so much pigment in their tiny container. With one swipe, they leave intense, creamy color. Having mentioned cake, they also have a very subtle sweet smell that I absolutely love.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are definitely my most loved and most used lip products. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for matte lip color with a lot of fun color choices.

My Most Loved Lorac Products

Every makeup obsessed person has their kryptonite. For some it’s brands and for others it’s a product category. For me, it’s both. I’m a huge fan of Lorac and I love anything and everything that makes me a sculpted, bronzed beauty. Without further adieu, here are my two most loved Lorac products.

Lorac Pro Contour Palette with Pro Contour Brush ($45 at Ulta)

I used to contour, religiously, every. Single. Day. It’s surprising I didn’t already have a contour palette, but I was finally in the market when I heard about this beauty through the grapevine of beauty bloggers. I made it a point to get it the weekend it was released.

Even though I only contour for special occasions or date nights now, this palette is still one of my most prized possessions and one of my most loved Lorac products. I’ve been debating on breaking it out again for regular non-touring, but we’ll see where summer takes me…

I love the packaging of the Lorac Pro products. They all have a very sleek and classic look. The palette is a soft, matte material – which gets dirty easily, as you’ll see in one of the photos. This palette also came with a contouring technique book and the Pro Contour Brush. The brush really sold me on the kit, which reminds me of the Nars Kabuki Ita Brush – a beauty blogger favorite.

This palette contains two matte highlighters (beige and yellow), one shimmer highlight and three matte contour shades (light, deep and medium). Each powder is extremely smooth and applies so easily. The colors are highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way!17a48729-f097-4b3f-af7d-7ea5bbde9e84.jpg

Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer (Travel Size – $8 at Ulta)

Along with contouring, I’m all about bronzer. I have so many… dark bronzers, light bronzers, shimmery bronzers, matte bronzers and more! I have quite the collection because I used to use bronzer to contour and I was always looking for the right color to cast a faux shadow on my face, but I’d also want another to add that sun-kissed glow. I finally came across the Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer during a trip to Kohl’s and had to have it.

I find that this product is best used as a highlighter and to add that sun-kissed glow above and around your regular contour. It can also be worn alone to brighten up the face and add some healthy color.

The product is super smooth, again, and so easy to apply. I honestly can’t express enough how much I love Lorac products – they feel like butter on your skin, although you’d never actually want butter on your skin…

Out of my collection of Lorac products, these are hands down, my two most loved and most used products.

A Different Shade Every Day – Wet n Wild Lipstick Collection

Lipstick is one of my all-time favorite makeup products. It adds the finishing touches on any look – whether it’s a regular day at the office or a night out on the town. I came across these Wet n Wild lip colors one autumn afternoon. I was in my local Walgreens and saw the obnoxious end cap display, a large bright sign with a super low price. So being the curious, makeup loving, frugal shopper I am, I went to check it out. I was also currently in the market for a new dark burgundy lip color – #basicgirlsunite!

Anyway, once I picked up my first lip color by Wet n Wild, I had to get more. So here’s a sneak peek into my current color collection, swatches and why I love them!

From left to right: Dark Wine (536A), Java (532E), Blushing Bali (507C), 15 Minutes Aflame (517C), and Nouveau Pink (518D)

Reasons why I’m obsessed

  1. Pigment: With a single swipe, each lipstick leaves a lasting, rich and creamy color.
  2. Formula: Like I said, this lipstick is extremely creamy and soft. The application is so smooth, like butter – because we all want to smother butter all over our lips. I’ve found that with the creamy formula, it is also very hydrating.
  3. Long Lasting: I’m not knocking drug store products because I love them, but for a drug store product they last a really long time. Of course, pro tip, to make it last all day, be sure to use a lip liner and set it with some loose powder.
  4. Range of Colors: As you can see in the photos, with the five shades I have, they are all pretty different. This Wet n Wild line has so many colors, it’s so hard to choose. They offer dark reds, nudes, true reds, pinks, purples and I’m sure many, many others.
  5. Affordability: The price is absolutely right with these colors. In my area, I believe they cost less than a dollar. I really love this factor because for a while I was purchasing pricier lip color at Sephora, which is great, but I wanted all of the colors and right now my budget doesn’t allow that. With this line, I can try many shades without hurting my wallet. Once I find shades that work for me, I can then decide if it’s worth buying the $20 lip color or continue purchasing the never fail, less than a dollar version.

I’ll absolutely keep stocking up on this line, so long as they continue carrying it at my local drug stores. Lipstick is a really great and easy way to change up your look.
