BB creams, otherwise known as blemish balms or beauty balms, have finally been in the lime light after being around for ages! This product is essentially a tinted moisturizer with added benefits, such as SPF, coverage, essential vitamins, and even some anti-aging properties. BB creams are so versatile and beneficial that they can actually replace your foundation and moisturizer.
History of the BB Cream
The BB cream was developed in Germany by Christine Schrammek, M.D.in the 1950s. It was created to sooth the skin and mask irritation after skin peels and facials. Fast forward thirty years, the BB cream was all the rage throughout Asia where it was nicknamed a “miracle cream.”
Since they’ve been introduced in the United States fairly recently, many of the products here are glorified tinted moisturizers. There are not many color options, making it super frustrating, but with increased buzz, skin care companies have been creating more shades.
BB creams do what seemed like the impossible – they offer sun protection, prevent blemishes, cover imperfections, and sooth the skin.
Now the skin care product is available around the world, in various shades. It’s the perfect lightweight product for everyday use.
Choosing and Applying Your BB Cream
Choosing your BB cream takes a lot of trial and error. Some have more coverage than others, and some have better shades than others. You have to choose one that works well with your skin. If you have more oily skin, it’s generally a good idea to dust over your face with a setting powder.
Similar to foundation, there are numerous ways to apply a BB cream. You can use clean fingers, a brush, or a sponge. Keep in mind, if you need more coverage in certain areas, it’s a good idea to layer applications for a smooth and perfect look!
Personally, I’m just now starting to use BB creams because I’ve had some skin problems so I don’t want to wear heavy foundation all the time, but I do want to cover some of the imperfections.
